Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s eldest daughter, North West, has officially joined Instagram. Her new account states it is “managed by parents,” despite Kanye having earlier publicly criticized Kardashian over their daughter’s social media use.

In her debut Instagram post, North paid a subtle tribute to her mother. For her “first post,” North shared a blurry photo of her flashing two peace signs in a dark room filled with lit-up Christmas decorations. In case anyone needs a refresher, it’s Kardashian’s signature post.

North wore a pair of chainlink combat boots and a black miniskirt. Taking fashion cues from Kardashian, a longtime Balenciaga ambassador, North wore a baggy printed football jersey from the brand.

The next day, North shared another photo on the platform, where her hands covered her face while sporting a furry ski hat adorned with “NOR11.” It seemed like she could be teasing a new project as the caption read, “soon” arrow emoji.

So far, North has already garnered over 491K followers on Instagram, and her first post has reached over a million likes. Her almost half a million followers include her mother and grandmother, Kris Jenner.

Despite the platform’s terms and conditions stating that users must be at least 13 years old to have an account, a profile linked to the young rebel went live on Saturday. Users online have expressed their concern about whether North’s social media presence and edgy looks are age-appropriate. Kardashian is the one who’s getting heavy criticism for encouraging or allowing North’s bold persona at such a young age.

On Reddit, disappointed users reacted to the news, saying, “Shame on every single adult in these children’s lives who has the power but not the will to protect them.” Another person shared the same sentiment, adding, “She shouldn’t be on IG she’s too young. It sucks that not one adult in her life cares enough to protect her.” One user worried, “Seems like Kim has absolutely no control over her and will let her run wild.”

North later took to her Instagram stories to share some snaps and clips of her with friends rocking multicolored wigs. Her Instagram debut instantly caught attention online owing to her bold style and celebrity lineage.

Before Instagram, North had a huge joint TikTok account with her mother. The duo posted fashion content and dance videos, amassing millions of followers.

Back in 2022, Kanye called out Kardashian for letting their then-eight-year-old, North, feature in a TikTok video with her cousin, Penelope Disick. The two girls were singing Machine Gun Kelly’s song, Emo Girl

At the time, the mother of four defended her action and called out “Kanye’s constant attacks” in her Instagram stories. She wrote, “I am doing my best to protect our daughter while also allowing her to express her creativity in the medium that she wishes with adult supervision – because it brings her happiness.”

North joined Instagram right after she and her mother received backlash over the 12-year-old’s now-infamous costume. She had a nose piercing, waist-length blue braids, colored contacts, grillz, and fake face tattoos.

Kanye has publicly opposed North’s social media presence. He called it harmful and expressed frustration over a lack of control. Kardashian and Kanye’s co-parenting dynamic adds tension. They often fuel public debate over parenting decisions and proper exposure.

Some fans have contrasted the Kardashians’ approach with that of Beyoncé and Jay-Z, who maintain a more private parenting style.
