Karoline Leavitt has left many pleasantly surprised with her baby announcement. But the one question many are asking is who will take over for her when she goes on maternity leave. Lara Trump, Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law, revealed that the break is going to be brief.

According to the Daily Beast, Lara hinted that the White House press secretary’s maternity leave would be brief. This came just days after the 28-year-old announced she was expecting a baby girl in the new year.

According to Fox & Friends Weekend host Lisa Boothe, Lara said, “I’ve seen some stories out there…people saying, ‘whose next in line? ‘ Nobody’s next in line, it’s Karoline, she can do everything,” she added.

Narrating the story about Karoline’s first pregnancy, Lara pointed out that Leavitt had given birth to her first child, Niko, in July 2024 and remained active throughout much of Donald Trump’s presidential campaign.

Lara said, “She did this, by the way, during the Trump campaign. She was pregnant, delivered her son Nico, and then was back to work within a couple of days on television, fighting to ensure President Trump got elected.”

She further claimed, “We’re all going to be watching as Karoline Leavitt absolutely schools the fake news media while she’s probably 8 and 9 months pregnant.”

Posting on Instagram, Karoline shared a couple of snaps from their cozy Christmas celebrations. She posted a picture of herself in a bodycon white dress, embracing her bump and thus announcing to the world that she was expecting her second child.

In the caption, the White House press secretary wrote, “The greatest Christmas gift we could ever ask for – a baby girl coming in May 2026. My husband and I are thrilled to grow our family and can’t wait to watch our son become a big brother. My heart is overflowing with gratitude to God for the blessing of motherhood, which I truly believe is the closest thing to Heaven on Earth.”

The caption further read, “I am also extremely grateful to President Trump and our Chief of Staff Susie Wiles for their support, and for fostering a pro-family environment in the White House. 2026 is going to be a great year, and I am so excited to be a girl mom!”

Sharing the clip from Lara’s interview, Karoline thanked her for her encouraging words. In fact, in a 2024 interview with the right-wing outlet The Conservateur, Leavitt recalled returning to Trump’s campaign within just 4 days of giving birth to her son Nikko.

Karoline has already broken the record by being the youngest press secretary in the history of the U.S., and now she has another record to her name by being the first publicly pregnant woman to hold the role.

She made headlines before as well, when she openly discussed the 32-year age gap between herself and Riccio. According to Miranda Devine’s Pod Force One podcast, Karoline admitted that it was challenging for her to introduce him to her parents at first.

Later, she revealed, “Once they got to know him and saw who he is as a man and his character and how much he adores me, I think it became quite easy for them, and now we’re all friends.”
